The eastern Pyrenees put several genuinely good ski areas within a few hours of Barcelona, and almost every trip begins at Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN). This is our overview of the resorts we cover from Barcelona, and how a private transfer takes the friction out of the journey up. One rule underpins all of it: every trip is Barcelona airport or city to the resort and back — we are not a local taxi once you are in the mountains.

The resorts we cover

Andorra is the best-known destination: Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís now operate together as Grandvalira Resorts under a single Andorra Pass. Andorra la Vella is 200 km and about 2 h 50 from BCN, Soldeu 219 km (3 h 14), Ordino Arcalís 221 km (3 h 21) and Pas de la Casa 228 km (3 h 24). La Molina and Masella share the Alp 2500 domain and are the closest big ski area to Barcelona: La Molina 158 km (2 h 10), Masella around 160 km (2 h 15). Baqueira Beret, in the Val d’Aran, is Spain’s premium resort and the longest run: 328 km and about 4 h 25 via the Vielha tunnel. Smaller resorts round out the range — Vallter 2000 162 km (2 h 35), Port Ainé 245 km (3 h 30), Espot Esquí 266 km (3 h 45), Boí Taüll 239 km (4 h 10) and Tavascan 268 km (4 h 04). All distances and times are estimates without traffic, not guaranteed arrival times.

Season dates: what is confirmed and what is not

Grandvalira markets the 2026-27 season from 4 December to 4 April, and actual opening depends on snow. Baqueira has announced 28 November 2026 to 4 April 2027, but only through specialist press citing the resort, so treat it as announced rather than confirmed. La Molina, Masella, Ordino Arcalís, Vallter 2000, Port Ainé, Espot Esquí, Boí Taüll and Tavascan had not confirmed their 2026-27 dates as of 12 September 2026. Check the official resort calendar before you book flights.

Vall de Núria: there is no road

Vall de Núria has no road access. The only way up is the rack railway from Ribes de Freser or Queralbs, so we cannot take you to the resort itself: the transfer ends at Ribes de Freser or Queralbs — 137 km and about 2 h 05 from the airport — and you take the rack railway from there. Anyone selling you a car all the way to Núria is selling you something that does not exist.

Skis, boards and winter equipment

Skis and boards travel as special equipment: €15 per set per passenger, with a limit per vehicle — one set in a saloon, two or three in a minivan, four or more in a van. Tell us how many sets you are carrying when you book: if they do not fit, we quote the larger vehicle before you pay, never after. For mountain routes we assign a vehicle that is ready for them: our fleet meets the mandatory winter equipment rules and, when conditions call for it, the assigned vehicle goes up with chains on board. On the Spanish side the requirement is triggered by the R-412 sign on the stretch, not by the calendar, and only 3PMSF tyres or chains count; in Andorra winter equipment is compulsory across the whole network from 1 November to 15 May. If you are heading to Andorra, remember it sits outside the EU customs union: keep your passport or national ID accessible, as border checks are more common leaving than entering. And always book the return leg in advance — resort check-out times cluster together and cars sell out fast.

A note on cross-border transfers to France

Cross-border transfers into France — for example towards Perpignan or French resorts such as Font-Romeu (175 km, 2 h 25), Porté-Puymorens (178 km, 2 h 29) or Les Angles (191 km, 2 h 42) — are available only on request and subject to confirmation of availability, with no published fixed price. Please ask us before you plan around one; we will confirm whether we can operate your specific trip. Note also that France applies the Loi Montagne II: in the Eastern Pyrenees, winter equipment is compulsory from 1 November to 31 March.

How much does it cost to bring skis or a snowboard?

How many ski sets fit in one vehicle?

One set in a saloon, two or three in a minivan and four or more in a van. Eight passengers with eight ski sets do not fit in a single vehicle, which is why we ask for the number of sets at booking rather than discovering it at the terminal door.

How long do the transfers really take?

From Barcelona Airport: La Molina 158 km (2 h 10), Masella around 160 km (2 h 15), Andorra la Vella 200 km (2 h 50), Soldeu 219 km (3 h 14), Pas de la Casa 228 km (3 h 24), Baqueira Beret 328 km (4 h 25) via the Vielha tunnel. These are estimates without traffic, never guaranteed arrival times.

What happens if it snows or a pass closes?

We climb on the Spanish side, which is the more reliable approach in winter, and the assigned vehicle carries chains when conditions call for it. Passes do close: the Bonaigua, above 2,000 m, closes in winter, and the Envalira pass in Andorra can be restricted or shut in its black phase. If your route is affected we tell you as soon as we know and agree the alternative with you.

Can you take me to Vall de Núria?

Not to the resort itself — Vall de Núria has no road access. We take you to Ribes de Freser or Queralbs, 137 km and about 2 h 05 from the airport, and you take the rack railway from there.
