Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís now operate together as Grandvalira Resorts, with a single Andorra Pass. Ordino Arcalís is the northernmost of the three, at the head of the Valira del Nord above Ordino and El Serrat — the far side of the country from Pas de la Casa. From Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) it is 221 km and about 3 h 21 without traffic.
Who Ordino Arcalís suits
It is the area for skiers who would rather queue less than tick off the largest lift map, for families based in the quieter Ordino and La Massana valleys, and for anyone who wants the Andorra Pass without the busiest sectors. We do not publish piste kilometres, vertical drop or lift counts here: the figures in circulation do not agree with one another, so take those from the official resort site.
How you actually get there
We climb on the Spanish side. From BCN the road runs inland on the C-16 through the Cadí tunnel, or on the C-14, to La Seu d’Urgell and the Andorran border, then through Andorra la Vella and north up the Valira del Nord through La Massana and Ordino. One useful consequence: this approach never crosses the Envalira pass, which is on the eastern side of the country towards Pas de la Casa and can be restricted or closed in its black phase — it was shut on 29 and 30 March 2026. It also keeps you off the French RN-20, closed completely by a rockfall from 31 January to 9 March 2026. The Cadí tunnel is tolled: 14.56 € for a car in 2026. The 3 h 21 is an estimate without traffic, not a guaranteed arrival time.
Winter equipment on this route
For mountain routes we assign a vehicle that is ready for them: our fleet meets the mandatory winter equipment rules and, when conditions call for it, the assigned vehicle goes up with chains on board. In Andorra winter equipment is compulsory across the whole road network from 1 November to 15 May. On the Spanish half of the drive the requirement is triggered by the R-412 sign on the stretch, not by the calendar, and only 3PMSF tyres or chains count.
Why public transport does not work with ski gear
The scheduled coach from Barcelona reaches Andorra la Vella bus station and no further. From there you still need a local connection up the Valira del Nord with skis, boots and bags, and the resort itself is above the villages. A private transfer does the whole journey in one vehicle, to the door of where you are staying, and brings you back the same way — the Andorra to Barcelona leg is a route we run normally.
Season dates
Grandvalira markets the 2026-27 season from 4 December to 4 April, and actual opening depends on snow. Ordino Arcalís had not confirmed its own opening and closing dates as of 12 September 2026; historically the Pyrenean season runs from December to late March. Check the official resort calendar before you book flights.
Skis and boards
Skis and boards travel as special equipment: €15 per set per passenger, with a limit per vehicle — one set in a saloon, two or three in a minivan, four or more in a van. Tell us how many sets you are carrying when you book: if they do not fit, we quote the larger vehicle before you pay, never after.
- Carry your passport or national ID: checks are more common leaving Andorra than entering.
- Tell us the village — Ordino, La Massana, El Serrat or Andorra la Vella — so we route to the right door.
- We track your flight, so a delayed landing never costs you the transfer.
- Book the return leg at the same time: resort check-outs cluster in the same morning window.
- Travel times are estimates without traffic, never guaranteed arrival times.
