Can I take the metro from the airport to L'Hospitalet?

Yes, without changing. Metro line L9 Sud runs from T1 and T2 straight into L'Hospitalet, stopping at Fira, Europa|Fira, Can Tries|Gornal, Torrassa and Collblanc. The R2 Nord train from T2 also calls at Bellvitge station. For the Fira Gran Via and nearby hotels it's practical if you travel light; check operating hours if your flight is very early or late.

Is my hotel in L'Hospitalet actually in Barcelona?

No. L'Hospitalet de Llobregat is a separate city, although the two run into each other. Some neighbourhoods sit right by Barcelona landmarks: Collblanc borders the city and is roughly a ten-minute walk from Camp Nou. A quick check is the postcode, since L'Hospitalet uses codes from 08900 to 08908, while Barcelona city postcodes start with 080.
