Girona sits about 105 km north of Barcelona Airport, a 70–85 minute drive up the AP-7. Although the city has its own airport, its flight offer is limited and seasonal, so a large share of visitors to the Barri Vell, the Jewish Quarter and Girona’s food scene land at El Prat instead. The city has also become famous as a filming location for international TV series.

- Is there a direct bus or train from Barcelona Airport to Girona?
- By coach, yes: Sagalés runs a line from El Prat that calls at Barcelona Nord and Girona-Costa Brava Airport, reaches Girona and carries on to Figueres, with only a few departures a day. By rail there is no through service: you ride Rodalies R2 Nord into Barcelona and change to the R11 regional or a high-speed train. Check the current timetables before you fly.
- My ticket says 'Girona' – is that the same as Barcelona Airport?
- No. Girona-Costa Brava Airport (code GRO) is a separate airport about 12 km south-west of Girona and more than 100 km from Barcelona-El Prat (BCN). This transfer starts at El Prat, so check the airport code on your booking before reserving. If you do land at BCN, the driver tracks your flight, you get 60 minutes of free waiting, and then it's straight up the AP-7 to your Girona address.
