Escaladei is where the Priorat wine story starts: in the 12th century Carthusian monks founded a charterhouse here and planted the first vineyards on the slate slopes below the Montsant. Terra Dominicata turned the charterhouse’s old farm buildings into a 26-room, adults-only hotel with its own winery, tastings in the cellar, a restaurant, a pool and a spa.
Wine country without a railway
The Priorat is one of the least connected corners of Catalonia, and that is part of its charm. There is no station in Escaladei, and the bus from Reus runs only on a few weekdays. From the airport you would need a train to Reus first, so a trip of under two hours by road can easily take most of a day.
Taste the wine, leave the car
Arriving by transfer also means you do not have to drive after a tasting at the hotel or at the cellars of Gratallops, Porrera or Poboleda. A fixed-price transfer takes you from BCN arrivals to the hotel in about 1h50, with your flight tracked and 60 minutes of free waiting at the airport.
Practical tips
- Booked a cellar tasting or a spa session for arrival day? Tell us the time so we plan the pickup with margin.
- The hotel is adults only, so it is ideal for couples and friends; no need to ask about child seats for this one.
- Book the return in advance: taxis are scarce in the Priorat and few will come out to Escaladei at short notice.
- Share your flight number and we track it automatically.
