Poblet is one of the great Cistercian monasteries of Europe, still home to a community of monks and listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Its guest house, the Hostatgeria, was built in 2010 on the site of the medieval hospital where the monastery once sheltered the poor and pilgrims. Guests sleep inside the monastery precinct, a few steps from the church and the Royal Gate.
A monastery among vineyards, 3 km from the train
Poblet stands in open countryside in the Conca de Barberà, surrounded by vineyards and the Prades mountains. The closest station is l’Espluga de Francolí, on the regional line to Lleida, and from there a local road leads 3 km to the monastery. From the airport, that means a change in Barcelona, a regional train with a limited timetable and then a walk or a taxi.
Arriving before the gates close
The Hostatgeria is a quiet place, and many guests come for a retreat, a guided visit to the monastery or the Cistercian Route. A fixed-price transfer gets you from BCN arrivals to the monastery square in about 1h25. Your flight is tracked, and the driver waits up to 60 minutes free at the airport, so a delay does not leave you on a station platform at night.
Practical tips
- Hotel check-in runs from the afternoon until the evening: if your flight lands late, tell the guest house your arrival time as well as us.
- Want to see the monastery on arrival day? Plan a morning flight; the drive is about 1h25.
- Continuing to Montblanc, the Priorat or Lleida afterwards? Contact us to check a transfer from the monastery.
- Book the return in advance: there is no taxi rank at the monastery.
