The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, just outside the town of Montmeló near Granollers, is home to the region’s biggest fixed date on the motorsport calendar: the MotoGP Catalan Grand Prix, held every spring. In the seasons Formula 1 also races at the circuit, it adds a second huge weekend. Tens of thousands of fans converge on a rural stretch of the Vallès Oriental over three days, and moving in and out of the circuit is the part of the weekend nobody enjoys — unless it is handled for you.
Getting to Montmeló
The circuit is around 30 km north of Barcelona and its airport, reachable by the C-17 and AP-7. On race days, access roads near the gates are tightly controlled, parking fills early, and the local trains run packed. A private transfer drops you as close to the entrance as stewards allow and, crucially, arranges a clear meeting point for the pick-up afterwards.
Why a transfer beats the crush
When a session ends, everyone leaves at once. That is when public transport queues stretch and casual taxis simply are not there. With a pre-booked transfer the price is fixed regardless of demand, there is no surge, and there is room for coolers, cushions and team gear. Groups can share a minivan and travel together instead of splitting across scarce cabs.
Race-weekend tips
- Book both the outbound and return legs — the post-race exit is the hard part.
- Allow extra time; traffic around Montmeló and Granollers builds fast.
- Agree the pick-up point when you book so the driver is not caught in a closure.
- For a group, a minivan is cheaper per head and keeps everyone together.
